I feel like I’m going to be the new Chris Crocker making the Youtube video, “Leave Justin Alone!” Mr. Bieber was accused of being homophobic and anti-abortion in his interview with Rolling Stone magazine. I wanted to do a bit more research on it and get the direct quotes, which I felt were probably read out of context. First of all, listen to this: “Canada’s the best country in the world…We go to the doctor and we don’t need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you’re broke because of medical bills.” Go Canada! Being a fellow Canadian myself, I must say you have to read his comments from the perspective of a country that is more culturally and politically advanced.
When asked about being gay, Mr. Bieber said, “It’s everyone’s own decision to do that. It doesn’t affect me and shouldn’t affect anyone else.” Even if he has meant being gay was a choice, he said it should not be an issue for anyone. In 1996, sexual orientation was added to the Canadian Human Rights Act, an anti-discrimination law that applies to federally regulated activities throughout Canada. Now do you have that in the U.S.? And furthermore, in 2005, Canada has become the fourth country in the world to legalize gay marriage. So if you have read his comment with some knowledge of Canada, you’d know he’s really saying who cares what people do in their bedroom or if gay people get married. Being gay or legalizing gay marriage shouldn’t affect Justin Bieber or anyone else in that matter.
And then he was flamed for saying, “I really don’t believe in abortion… It’s like killing a baby.” It may be his personal opinion to not believe in abortion… but he also said he “wouldn’t be able to judge” in the case of rape. That’s exactly why Jusin Bieber is a 16-year-old pop star and not an abortion clinic counsellor.
Just to let you know, Canada is one of the only few nations in the world that has no legal restrictions on abortion. Practically free, abortions are provided and covered by the Canadian national health care system to Canadian citizens and permanent residents in hospitals across the country.
So leave Justin alone!
